Affiliated to The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), the State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology (SKLA) was presented with its plaque by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China on August 25, 2025, marking its significant contributions to the technological advancement nationally and globally. The plaque awarding ceremony was officiated by Mr Yin Hejun, Minister of Science and Technology; Mr Zhou Ji, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR (LOCPG); and Mr John Lee Ka Chiu, Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR, with Professor Dennis Lo Yuk Ming, CUHK President, witnessing the occasion. This marks a major milestone of SKLA in the scientific arena and highlights Hong Kong’s strategic role within the national science and technology framework.
Aligning with national development strategy, the Innovation and Technology Commission of the Hong Kong SAR Government initiated the restructuring of the “State Key Laboratories” in late 2023. Under the leadership of Professor Lam Hon Ming, our SKLA team successfully accomplished the restructuring. Professor Lam accepted the plaque on behalf of the laboratory from Minister Yin Hejun.
Also present at the ceremony were CUHK Vice Presidents Professor Sham Mai Har and Professor Anthony Chan Tak Cheung, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Science Professor Yam Sheung Chi Philip, and SKLA members including Professor Kwan Kin Ming (Associate Dean of Faculty of Science), Professor Chan Ho Yin (Director of School of Life Sciences), Professor Wu Jin (representing other non-CUHK members), and Dr. Liu Pui Shan (Assistant Director of SKLA), who jointly witnessed this significant and meaningful occasion.
